Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 15: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has returned to Raj Bhavan after receiving medical care and rest at the hospital, according to an official release.
“We are happy to share that the Honourable Governor is now in good health and high spirits. We extend our sincere gratitude to all those who expressed their concern and conveyed their good wishes during this time. Your continued support and prayers are highly appreciated,” the statement said.
The Governor was admitted to the Command Hospital in Kolkata on April 21 after experiencing shoulder pain. Following a routine check-up, doctors advised rest and kept him under observation for a day. A statement from Raj Bhavan on social media noted that the pain was a result of “hectic field visits” and confirmed that he was recovering well.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited Governor Bose at the hospital during his recovery.
In a separate political development, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury reacted strongly to reports suggesting that Governor Bose had recommended the imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal in light of the recent violence in Murshidabad.
Chowdhury cautioned against any arbitrary implementation of Article 356, stating, “Implementation of Article 356 suddenly is not easy. We have a Constitution and a judiciary. Arbitrarily, it cannot be implemented based on what the Governor says.”
He went on to blame the state administration and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the deteriorating law and order situation but added, “This government must be removed through due process, not from the backdoor by implementing President’s rule.”
The Governor had submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs following the Murshidabad violence on April 11, which erupted during a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The unrest resulted in two deaths, several injuries, and widespread property damage, forcing thousands to flee their homes.
