Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight at meeting US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, congratulating him on winning a second term. Modi emphasized that the India-US strategic partnership will continue to progress with the same trust and excitement as before.
Modi: India-US Ties Will Strengthen Further
Speaking alongside President Trump, PM Modi highlighted the historic political mandates both leaders received.
“I am delighted to see you back in the White House. I congratulate you on behalf of 140 crore people of India. The people of India have given me the opportunity to serve as Prime Minister for the third time—something that has happened after 60 years in India’s history.”
He further added:
“In your second term, we will work with twice the speed than we did in the first. I can say from my past experience of working with you in your first term that we will continue to advance India-US strategic partnership with the same bond, same trust, and same excitement.”
Remembering ‘Howdy Modi’ & ‘Namaste Trump’ Events
Modi fondly recalled the Howdy Modi (Houston, 2019) and Namaste Trump (Ahmedabad, 2020) events, which were landmark moments in India-US friendship.
“As soon as I entered this room, my friend reminded me of Ahmedabad and the cricket stadium where we held a big rally. The echoes of the ‘Howdy Modi’ and ‘Namaste Trump’ events can still be heard in India and around the world.”
Trump’s Role in Strengthening Ties
PM Modi also praised President Trump’s personal efforts in making the India-US relationship stronger than ever.
“President Trump has made immense personal contributions to strengthening our bilateral relationship, making it more comprehensive and reaching unprecedented heights.”
This is PM Modi’s first visit to the US since President Trump’s second-term inauguration last month. Notably, he is among the first world leaders to visit Washington, DC, receiving an invitation within three weeks of the new administration taking office.
With both leaders committing to accelerating cooperation in trade, energy, and strategic affairs, this meeting signals a new phase in India-US ties, set to move forward with unprecedented speed and collaboration.
