“We Knew What Avesh Could Do”: Shardul Thakur Hails LSG Teammate’s Final-Over Brilliance

Shardul Thakur praises Avesh Khan’s match-winning final over and credits Prince Yadav’s penultimate over effort; says team unity and coaching support helped LSG win crunch moments.

New Delhi, April 20: After Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edged past Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a heart-stopping two-run victory, LSG pacer Shardul Thakur lauded the match-winning performance of Avesh Khan, who defended nine runs in the final over, and also highlighted the crucial contribution of Prince Yadav in the 19th.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Thakur opened up about the pressure moments, his involvement in a crucial catch, and the team’s trust in Avesh’s death-over abilities.

“It’s never easy in those pressure situations. I missed a run-out but luckily got the catch on the next ball. Honestly, I was probably just at the right angle. We always knew what Avesh was capable of,” said Thakur.

🧊 Nerves of Steel: Avesh Seals It for LSG

Avesh Khan produced a clinical final over, conceding just 6 runs and taking a three-wicket haul to stop Rajasthan’s chase of 181. His calm under pressure earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award and sealed LSG’s fifth win of the season.

“Credit also goes to Prince Yadav for that 19th over. His pace surprised the batters, just like he did in that first game in Vizag,” Thakur noted.

🤝 Team Culture and Coaching Support

Thakur credited LSG’s coaches and support staff for instilling belief and process-driven focus among the players, especially in close finishes.

“Very happy to be part of this team. The coaches and management stress following the process, not worrying about results. Out of four tight games, we’ve won three—that says a lot about the mindset here,” he said.

“They take good care of us on and off the field. Their support and encouragement really help us perform in high-pressure moments.”
