The West Bengal government has made it mandatory for all movie theaters and multiplexes to show Bengali movies during prime time. This is a big step toward helping the regional film industry. On Wednesday, an official verified that the new order, which goes into force right now, says that each screen must show a Bengali movie in prime time every day.
The time between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., when most people go to the movies, is called “prime time.” The official said that this choice is part of the government’s long-term goal to support regional cinema and make sure that Bengali films have enough visibility and business prospects in their native state.
The government also said that the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation of Public Exhibitions) Rules, 1956, will be changed to follow the new order. This change is likely to have a big positive effect on the local cinema industry by giving Bengali films a regular place to show and maybe increasing their box office sales and bringing in more investment.
