Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 Sparks Heated Debate Ahead Of Rajya Sabha Vote

New Delhi [India]: The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was cleared in the Lok Sabha with a 288-232 vote, is set to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha today at 1 PM, with Union Minister JP Nadda and BJP National President leading the discussion.

What’s in the Bill?

The bill amends the Waqf Act of 1995 to improve the administration and management of Waqf properties, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and digitization of records. The BJP claims it is a reformative step to help poor and orphaned Muslims, while the opposition views it as an attack on minority rights.

Key Arguments from Both Sides

🔹 BJP MP Damodar Agarwal: “The bill was thoroughly reviewed, debated for 12 hours, and passed with strong support. It will benefit the underprivileged within the Muslim community.”

Opposition’s Stand:
🔸 Congress MP Imran Masood: “This is a black day… an attack on our rights. We will challenge this bill in court.”
🔸 INDIA Bloc parties claim the bill is “unconstitutional and strips minorities of their rights.”
