Voting Begins For Haryana Local Body Elections

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], March 2: Voting for the Haryana local body elections kicked off on Sunday at 8 AM and will continue until 6 PM. The elections are being held for the general election of mayors and members of all wards in seven Municipal Corporations, presidents and members of all wards in four Municipal Councils, and 21 Municipal Committees.

Additionally, by-elections are taking place for three president seats in Municipal Council Sohna (Gurugram), Municipal Committee Assandh (Karnal), and Municipal Committee Ismailabad (Kurukshetra).

Key Election Details:

  • Municipal Corporations: Voting is being held for seven key municipal corporations, including Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, and Yamuna Nagar. Voting for Panipat Municipal Corporation will take place later in March.
  • Municipal Committees: Elections are also being conducted in 21 Municipal Committees, such as Barara in Ambala, Bawani Khera, Siwani, and Loharu in Bhiwani, Jakhal Mandi in Fatehabad, and Farrukh Nagar in Gurugram.

In the visuals, voters can be seen queued up outside polling booths, ready to cast their votes in the ongoing local body elections.

Security and Arrangements: According to ACP Jhajjar Dinesh Kumar, “Our arrangements are good. Police will keep an eye on every voter so that there is no bogus voting. We will keep an eye on the general public to ensure everything runs smoothly… We are checking every booth every half hour.”

Re-polling and Results: Re-polling, if needed, will be held on March 4 (except for Municipal Corporation, Panipat) and on March 11 for the Panipat Municipal Corporation. The results will be declared on March 12.

The elections are an important step in local governance, and the smooth conduct of the voting process is being closely monitored to ensure fairness and transparency.
