Like Father, Like Son: Virender Sehwag’s Son Aaryavir Makes T20 Debut In DPL With Impressive Cameo

NEW DELHI: The “Sehwag” name is back at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, almost ten years after Virender Sehwag withdrew from international cricket. This time, it wasn’t the famed opener but his older son, Aaryavir Sehwag, who made his debut in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). He showed off the aggressive strokeplay that made his father famous.

Aaryavir made his maiden appearance in a competitive T20 game as the Central Delhi Kings’ opening batsman. He scored a promising 22 runs off of just 16 balls. After a slow start, he let loose with a variety of strokes, including two straight boundaries off international bowler Navdeep Saini. In the next over, facing left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela, he hit two more fours in a row before being out by the same bowler.

The 17-year-old was a hot commodity at the DPL 2025 auction, where the Central Delhi Kings paid an amazing ₹8 lakh for him. Aaryavir, who took Yash Dhull’s place on the team, has been building a reputation for himself in the juvenile circuit.

In the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he made a big splash in his first game for Delhi, scoring 49 runs in a win. However, his best games were in the Cooch Behar Trophy, where he hit an undefeated 200 off 229 balls and then a near-triple century with a score of 297 off 309 balls in the next game.

Fans are quite excited about Aaryavir’s first performance, which was short but showed a lot of his father’s bold hitting approach. The Sehwag family is starting a new chapter in Indian cricket now that he is on the senior stage.
