Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli recently opened up about his digital detox and the decision to redefine his relationship with social media, revealing that he no longer shares personal content. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Indian Sports Summit, Kohli shared that the overwhelming attention he receives online led him to reconsider his social media habits.
Kohli admitted that the intense scrutiny and traction from his posts became overwhelming and physically draining. “The kind of attention you get and the kind of traction you receive when you put something out there on a platform is quite unbelievable… it’s quite intense,” Kohli shared. He went on to explain that, unlike his younger peers, he didn’t grow up with constant access to social media, making it easier for him to disconnect.
“I don’t engage in posts a lot these days. A lot of people are not happy about that but that’s something that I’ve consciously tried to do,” he stated. He emphasized that he wanted to avoid letting social media consume his energy, which he believes should be focused on his game and personal life.

Despite his 270 million Instagram followers, Kohli makes a conscious effort to separate his personal life from his professional image. His posts are now mostly limited to brand commitments, with a deliberate reduction in content that could be perceived as overly promotional. “I’m kind of disconnecting the two,” he explained, stressing the importance of keeping his personal and professional lives distinct.
Additionally, Kohli shared that he avoids posting about his achievements, acknowledging that social media posts about victories don’t enhance his personal satisfaction. “Posting about us winning the championship, it’s not going to increase the happiness in my heart. The reality stays the same,” he said.
Kohli’s recent reflections on social media serve as a reminder that even high-profile public figures need to prioritize their well-being and maintain a healthy balance in their digital presence. By setting boundaries, Kohli is redefining how public personalities engage with social media, encouraging others to reconsider the pressures of constant online engagement.
