Viola Davis is gearing up for an intense new role in the action thriller G20, directed by Patricia Riggen. Set for release on April 10 via Prime Video, the film follows U.S. President Danielle Sutton (played by Davis), who becomes a primary target after the G20 summit is attacked. After narrowly escaping her captors, President Sutton must outsmart the assailants to protect her family, defend her nation, and safeguard world leaders.
Riggen, who helms the project, praised Davis’ performance, noting, “This is Viola Davis as you’ve never seen her – heroically kicking tons of ass in a global thrill ride.” She added that G20 was inspired by her love for classic, heart-pounding action films, but with a modern, high-tech twist that reflects the stakes of today’s world.
The ensemble cast includes Anthony Anderson as Derek Sutton, Marsai Martin as Serena Sutton, Ramon Rodriguez as Agent Manny Ruiz, and Antony Starr as Rutledge, alongside a talented supporting team. The film is written by Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss, with the story by Logan Miller and Noah Miller.
Producers Davis and Julius Tennon described the film as a high-stakes action story with emotional depth, while producer Andrew Lazar emphasized its universal theme of protecting those we love. The movie is a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios, MRC, and Mad Chance Productions, with JuVee Productions also on board.
G20 promises to deliver an action-packed ride that combines suspense with a powerful emotional core.
