New Delhi (India), February 24: BJP MLA Vijender Gupta has been elected as the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The election took place on Monday after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta proposed his name for the position. Following tradition, both Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi accompanied Gupta to the Speaker’s chair.
The first session of the eighth Delhi Legislative Assembly began today. BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely took the oath as Protem Speaker, administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. After the ceremony, Vijender Gupta was officially elected as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Rekha Gupta, who was elected as the MLA from Shalimar Bagh, also took her oath as a member of the new legislative body. Speaking on the occasion, she expressed her commitment to the development of the state and public service. She shared on X, “I pledge dedication towards Delhi! Today I took the oath as MLA in Delhi Assembly. Shalimar Bagh is my karmabhoomi, but every citizen of Delhi is my family. I am committed to work with full dedication for the development of the entire state and public service. Inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, I will continue to strive to build a developed Delhi.”
Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma, while speaking to the media, assured the people of Delhi that the newly formed government would meet the expectations of the public and fulfill the promises made during the election campaign. “I want to say to the people of Delhi that our government will meet your expectations. We will fulfill all the poll promises we made. I also want the cooperation of the Opposition party. We want good laws to be formed to take Delhi to newer heights. I don’t claim that we will make Delhi like Paris or London, but we will ensure we develop Delhi. This is our government’s resolution,” he stated.
