‘Whistle Is Our First Victory’: Vijay Hails Election Symbol As Divine Sign For TVK’s Political Debut

Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and actor Vijay on Tuesday welcomed the Election Commission’s allotment of the whistle as the party’s official election symbol, calling it TVK’s “first victory” and a “divine prelude” to future electoral success.

In a detailed statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) in Tamil, Vijay confirmed that the whistle was among the symbols requested by TVK and expressed gratitude to the Election Commission for approving it.

“The whistle is one of the symbols we had applied for. I thank the Election Commission for allotting it to us,” Vijay said, describing the decision as the opening chapter of TVK’s electoral journey.

‘Symbol of Joy, Security and Victory’

Elaborating on the symbolism, Vijay said the whistle resonates deeply with people across generations and represents human joy, achievement and protection.

“The whistle is the sound of celebration that bursts forth when tireless hard work achieves its goal. More importantly, the whistle is in the hands of those who protect the people. It is a symbol of safety,” he said.

Calling the allotment a positive omen, Vijay framed it as a blessing that foretells political success.

“The whistle being allotted to us — a symbol close to the masses and one that foretells victory — is a gift given to us by nature and the divine. This is a prelude to TVK’s victory,” he said.

A Call for Reform and Clean Governance

Striking a strong moral and political note, the TVK chief portrayed the whistle as a tool of correction, discipline and reform.

“The whistle is the symbol of good people. It is the symbol of those who protect the nation. It is the symbol that eradicates corruption. It is the symbol of victory,” Vijay said.

Urging party cadres and supporters to rally behind the symbol ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he concluded with a call to action:

“Let us secure a massive victory. Let us blow the whistle.”

High-Stakes Political Moment for TVK

The Election Commission’s announcement comes at a crucial political juncture, as Vijay prepares to contest his first Assembly election as a party leader in a fiercely competitive landscape dominated by the ruling DMK and the resurgent AIADMK-BJP alliance.

While TVK is yet to formally announce its alliances, Vijay has consistently projected the party as a mass-based movement focused on clean governance, transparency and systemic change.

Legal and Professional Challenges Loom

On the professional front, uncertainty continues over Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayagan, which was scheduled for release ahead of Pongal. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is yet to clear the film.

The Madras High Court, which heard petitions related to the delay, has reserved its orders, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the release.

Separately, a CBI probe is underway into a stampede at a TVK rally in Karur, which reportedly claimed 41 lives. Vijay has been summoned twice to Delhi for questioning in connection with the case.

The Congress and ruling DMK have alleged that these developments are attempts to pressure Vijay into supporting the NDA, an accusation that the BJP has denied.
