The song “Fa9la” from the movie Dhurandhar, featuring actor Akshaye Khanna, has become a sensation, largely due to its music and unique dance moves. Choreographer Vijay Ganguly, the man behind the popular sequence, shared insights with NDTV about Khanna’s exceptional focus and the impromptu nature of the viral dance.
Akshaye Khanna’s Dedication and Focus
Ganguly highly praised Akshaye Khanna’s professionalism, noting his intense commitment on set:
“Once he’s in the middle of a take, he’s completely in his zone.”
He added that Khanna “doesn’t go to the van, he doesn’t wander around” and is “always in character.”
The Viral “Fa9la” Sequence Was Improvised
Ganguly revealed that the now-famous dance sequence in the “Fa9la” song—where Khanna’s character, Rehman Dakait, exits his car, dances into a celebration, and is honored with a turban—was entirely spontaneous.
- The Idea: Akshaye Khanna reportedly told director Aditya Dhar that he would dance upon entering the venue.
- The Execution: “Then the camera rolled, and he did what you see in the video. That was one take. That’s it. It was all impromptu. Everything was last-minute,” Ganguly said.
Ganguly admitted he is still surprised by the song’s massive success, calling the piece “the most effortless thing we did.”
