The makers officially announced the decision on Wednesday, citing ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan as the reason for the postponement.
“To our dear audience, we wish to inform that the release of our film Kingdom, originally set for May 30, has been rescheduled to July 4. We explored every possibility to stick to the original date, but recent unforeseen events in the country and the current atmosphere have made it difficult for us to move forward with promotions or celebrations,” the makers said in a statement.
The announcement comes in the backdrop of heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people lost their lives. In response, the Indian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). After retaliatory actions by Pakistan, India also responded by targeting Pakistani airports and thwarting further aggression.
Following these events, both countries reportedly agreed to de-escalate after a call between the Pakistan DGMO and his Indian counterpart.
‘Kingdom’ is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and stars Bhagyashri Borse opposite Vijay Deverakonda. The film is being produced by Sithara Entertainments in collaboration with Fortune Four Cinemas. The soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while Navin Nooli is handling the editing.
This project marks Vijay Deverakonda’s first lead role since ‘The Family Star’, where he starred alongside Mrunal Thakur.
