Shillong/Indore: Vipin Raghuvanshi, brother of deceased Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, has accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja’s wife and the prime accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, of attempting to derail the investigation. He has called for an additional eight days of police remand for Sonam and the other suspects to ensure a thorough investigation.
“Sonam hasn’t confessed her crime yet. She and the other accused are trying to mislead the police. We demand that their remand be extended by eight more days. Through further investigation and interrogation, the truth will come out,” Vipin told ANI.
Raja’s body was found on June 2 in a gorge near Sohra (Cherrapunji), days after he and Sonam were reported missing while on their honeymoon.
So far, five people have been arrested by the Meghalaya Police: Sonam Raghuvanshi, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand.
Key Investigation Updates:
- Crime scene reconstruction was conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday in the presence of Sonam and three other suspects.
- SP Vivek Syiem of East Khasi Hills said the reconstruction gave police “a very clear picture” of how the crime unfolded.
- However, he added that one machete used in the murder is still missing.
“The SIT visited several places to re-play how the accused did it. We started from the parking lot where they had kept their two-wheelers. We went to the viewpoint and ascertained who was standing where just before the murder,” said SP Syiem.
Earlier reports from Meghalaya Police had stated that Sonam had admitted her role in the crime. Vipin’s remarks now raise questions about the clarity of that confession and suggest that the family seeks deeper accountability and further interrogation.
The case continues to draw national attention for its shocking details involving premeditated murder during a honeymoon and alleged conspiracy by multiple individuals.
