New Delhi [India], April 10: Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster historical drama Chhaava, which made waves at the box office, is now set for its digital debut on Netflix. The film will begin streaming on April 11, as confirmed by the platform in a social media post on Thursday.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, Chhaava brings to life the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, portraying his bravery, leadership, and legacy. The movie hit theatres on February 14 and quickly turned into a massive success.
Netflix announced the release with a powerful poster and captioned it: “Aale Raje aale. Witness a tale of courage and glory etched in time. Watch Chhaava, out 11 April on Netflix.”
The film features an ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Viineet Kumar Siingh, and Ashutosh Rana, with Vicky Kaushal delivering a compelling performance in the titular role. Chhaava has emerged as Kaushal’s most successful film to date, surpassing hits like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.
The film also gained cultural prominence after being acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi. Referring to the film, he said, “Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai,” while praising Maharashtra’s contribution to Indian cinema. He also highlighted the role of Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava in bringing Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy to the forefront.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s praise, Vicky Kaushal shared his gratitude on Instagram, writing, “Honoured beyond words! Grateful to Hon. PM Narendra Modi Ji. #Chhaava.”
