Veteran Odia Actor Uttam Mohanty Passes Away At 66, Odisha CM Orders State Honours

Bhubaneswar (Odisha): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of veteran actor Uttam Mohanty, one of the most celebrated figures in Odia cinema.

Speaking to the media, CM Majhi stated:

“He was a big star in the Odia film industry. He also worked in Hindi and Bengali films. My connection with him is very old… I am saddened by his demise. I have issued orders for state honours to be accorded to him.”

As a mark of respect, the Odisha government has announced that his last rites will be conducted with full state honours.

A Legend Remembered 🎬

Uttam Mohanty, known for his charismatic screen presence, passed away at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after battling liver cirrhosis. He was 66 years old.

Born in 1958 in Baripada, Mayurbhanj, he made his Odia film debut with ‘Abhiman’ and quickly became a household name. After completing his education at MPC College, he went on to dominate Odia cinema with numerous successful films.

The actor’s demise has deeply impacted the Odia film industry and beyond, with several eminent personalities mourning his loss.

📌 BJD Chief Naveen Patnaik paid tribute on social media, writing:

“The passing of Uttam Mohanty, a legend of Odia cinema, has left a lasting void. His legacy in the world of art will continue to inspire future generations. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

📌 Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a long-time admirer, also expressed his grief:

“I am saddened and shocked by the demise of Odisha’s prominent actor, Uttam Mohanty. He was not just an artist but like family to me. His immense contributions to Odia cinema and the superhit films like ‘Ramayana,’ ‘Phulachandan,’ and ‘Sita Pari Nandini’ will forever be remembered.”

Uttam Mohanty’s passing marks the end of an era in Odia cinema. His contribution to the industry, spanning decades, has left an indelible mark on audiences and aspiring actors alike.
