UNITED STATES – Verizon is currently facing a widespread service outage across the United States, leaving many customers unable to make calls, send texts, or access mobile data. The telecommunications company has acknowledged the disruption, which has caused many users’ devices, particularly iPhones, to enter “SOS” or “satellite mode,” indicating a complete loss of cellular connection.
According to a Verizon spokesperson, the outage is a result of a “software issue impacting wireless service for some customers.” The company stated it is aware of the inconvenience and is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, though an official timeline for full restoration has not been provided. Customers are encouraged to check Verizon’s Network Status page for updates specific to their area.
Outage tracking site DownDetector reported a significant spike in complaints beginning around 3:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, with nearly 25,000 incidents logged at its peak. While reports appeared to be declining by 7 p.m. EDT, the outage has severely impacted major metropolitan areas, including Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Miami.
Frustrated users have taken to social media platforms like X and Reddit to voice their concerns and share their experiences. Many complained about the recurring nature of Verizon outages and the high cost of their service. One user wrote, “Verizon always has problems with these random ass outages for years. I’ve been a Verizon customer for the past 5 years and bro let me tell you these outages are so annoying. They charge a heavy premium for their service and it’s so unstable.”
Other users offered temporary solutions they found to be effective. One person in Dallas, Texas, noted that their service was intermittent and could be temporarily resolved by “navigating to the connections settings and toggling the data connection off and then back on.” The frustration of being in an area with normally reliable service that suddenly lost all connectivity was a common theme among posts.
This incident marks another major service disruption for Verizon in 2025, following earlier outages. The situation has prompted many customers to seek workarounds, such as using Wi-Fi Calling, to maintain communication.
