North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India]: As the Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court prepares to deliver its verdict in the RG Kar rape-murder case, the father of the deceased doctor reiterated his family’s commitment to seeking justice. Speaking to ANI, he expressed faith in the judiciary, stating, “Whatever punishment is appropriate will be decided by the court.”
Family’s Determination
The father of the victim emphasized their perseverance, vowing to continue their fight until justice is served. “The DNA report shows the involvement of four boys and one girl. We will feel some relief when the accused are punished. Until then, we will keep knocking on the doors of the court and seeking public support,” he said.
The family also criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its handling of the case. “The CBI has done nothing in this matter. The court assigned all responsibility to them, but we have received no satisfactory answers,” he alleged.
Widespread Protests and Delayed Justice
The case, involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose body was discovered on August 9 in the hospital’s seminar room, sparked nationwide outrage. The arrest of Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, led to questions about hospital security and accountability.
Despite the public outcry, delays in filing the chargesheet allowed several accused, including Abhijit Mondal and Sandip Ghosh, to secure bail.
Parallel Corruption Investigation
In November, the CBI filed a chargesheet concerning alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Among those named were Sandip Ghosh, Dr. Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan.
The financial investigation was initiated following a Calcutta High Court order and has been running parallel to the murder probe. Sandip Ghosh, one of the accused, also underwent a polygraph test in connection with the murder case.
Appeals to Authorities
The victim’s father revealed that the family had written letters to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Law Minister, but had yet to receive a response. “We hope the court’s decision today will bring us closer to justice,” he added.
Public Expectations
The RG Kar case has become a focal point for debates on hospital security, accountability, and the pace of justice. As the court delivers its verdict, all eyes remain on Sealdah to see whether justice will be served for the victim and her family.
