Michael Vaughan Suggests UK As Possible Host For Remaining IPL 2025 Matches Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

New Delhi [India]: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has raised the possibility of moving the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to the United Kingdom, following the suspension of the tournament due to rising border tensions between India and Pakistan.

On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the 18th edition of the IPL has been suspended for a week as a precautionary measure amidst the escalating geopolitical situation.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding the tournament’s resumption, Vaughan suggested that England could serve as a suitable venue to complete the IPL season. He noted that hosting the tournament in the UK could also conveniently lead into India’s scheduled Test series against England, set to begin on June 20.

“I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought?” Vaughan wrote on X.

The IPL’s suspension came abruptly after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was halted mid-way during the first innings on Thursday night. Spectators were asked to leave the venue, and both teams were escorted back to their hotels under security.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the temporary suspension and assured that the board is working on a revised plan for the remainder of the tournament.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” Saikia said in a statement.

The BCCI is expected to release a revised schedule after evaluating the security and logistical conditions with all relevant agencies.
