Actor Varun Dhawan has received strong words of appreciation for his role in Border 2, even as sections of social media continue to troll him for his performance. Colonel Sushil Kumar Dahiya, the son of war hero Major Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya, praised Varun’s portrayal of his father, calling it “mind-blowing.”
Ahead of the film’s release, the makers unveiled The Braves of the Soil – Tribute trailer, set to the song Mitti Ke Bete, at a grand event in Mumbai attended by Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty. During the event, Varun invited Colonel Dahiya on stage to share his thoughts on the tribute.
Speaking about the visuals and music, Colonel Dahiya said that Mitti Ke Bete is a true inspiration for every soldier, while Ghar Lautke Naa Aaye powerfully captures the emotions of soldiers’ families. He then went on to praise Varun’s performance, saying, “The character that Varun is playing is that of my father, and the way he has portrayed it on the silver screen is mind-blowing.”
The praise comes at a time when Varun has been facing online criticism, with some users accusing him of overacting and mocking his expressions since the release of the song Ghar Kab Aaoge in December. Addressing the trolling at the event, Varun said he prefers to ignore the noise and let his work speak for itself, adding that audiences would understand his effort once the film releases.
Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta under the banners of T-Series Films and J. P. Films. Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war, the film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in lead roles, along with Mona Singh, Anya Singh, Medha Rana and Sonam Bajwa. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23.
