Valley Bridge Construction Underway On Washed-Out Yamunotri Highway Stretch In Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], July 4: Urgent construction is in progress on a vallqey bridge at Ojri, where a portion of the Yamunotri National Highway was washed out due to recent landslides and heavy rainfall. Authorities have ramped up efforts to restore road connectivity in the affected region.

Materials for the bridge have been transported to Silai Band by vehicle and are being moved to Ojri as needed. The administration aims to restore the highway swiftly to ensure the safe passage of pilgrims and local residents.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya, during a site inspection, stressed the need for rapid and careful execution of the repair work.

“There must be no negligence in the restoration efforts. Ensure all necessary steps are taken to complete the work at the earliest,” said Arya.

To ensure public safety during the repair phase, the footpath remains open for pedestrians, and partial road access near Silai Band has been restored.

The District Magistrate also urged public cooperation, asking citizens to support the administration in both disaster response and infrastructure recovery efforts.

Following landslides near Syanchatti, debris blocked parts of the Yamuna River, causing water accumulation. The Irrigation Department has deployed JCBs, Pocland machines, and other heavy equipment to clear the debris and restore the river’s natural flow.

DM Arya instructed officials to expedite water drainage and implement all necessary precautionary measures to avoid further emergencies.

Meanwhile, teams from NDRF, SDRF, the Police, Disaster Management, and the Revenue Department are actively searching for missing persons from the recent Silai Band accident. A transhipment system with adequate vehicles has been set up at both ends of the damaged road to facilitate the movement of locals and pilgrims.
