Vaani Kapoor Navigates Bollywood As An Outsider: “You’ve To Be Your Biggest Cheerleader”

New Delhi,India: Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor has openly talked about her experiences as a “outsider” in a profession that many people think of as an elite club. She has talked about the particular hurdles of forging a career without powerful family ties or established support structures. The War actor stressed how important it is to believe in yourself and be strong in a situation like this

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Vaani, who made her debut in 2013 with Shuddh Desi Romance starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra, said, “You have to be your biggest cheerleader in this industry.” Especially when you are an outsider and don’t have a support system. You don’t have uncles, aunts, chachas, and chachis who love you and want you to perform well. Also, I’m not very good at networking.

Yash Raj Films: A “Game-Changer” and a Shield

Vaani says that Yash Raj Films (YRF), the famous production company that gave her her start, was a major “game-changer” in her life, even though it was hard. She described her relationship with the studio as familial, stating, “The people and the studio that found me — Yash Raj — are the ones who believed in me. They’ve been like family to me. Actors who join up with them will tell you that you feel safe and like you’re in the correct hands.

Kapoor also touched upon the darker, more unsettling aspects of the industry, particularly the infamous “casting couch” phenomenon, where individuals in power exploit aspiring artists for sexual favors in exchange for work. She confidently stated that she never encountered such experiences, attributing this immunity to the “professionalism and security” she found within YRF. She remembered how YRF’s casting director, Shanoo Sharma, helped her family feel better as they were making the big choice to move their daughter to a new city to pursue an acting career.

New job as an investigator in “Mandala Murders”

Vaani Kapoor is getting ready for the debut of her new movie, Mandala Murders, which is coming out soon. In this exciting crime thriller series, she will play a new character: a smart and motivated detective, which is different from her past roles. The show, co-directed by Gopi Puthran (known for Mardaani) and Manan Rawat, promises to delve into a string of chilling, ritualistic murders.

The official summary on IMDb says that the show takes place in “a quaint, mysterious town of Charandaspur, where fate, myth, and murder intertwine.” Detectives Rea Thomas and Vikram Singh uncover a terrifying plot of ritualistic murders linked to a secret society that has been around for hundreds of years.

The outstanding actors Surveen Chawla, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Jameel Khan are featured in the cast of Mandala Murders. The highly anticipated series is set to premiere globally on Netflix on July 25, 2025.
