Popular tourist destinations in Uttarakhand, such as Kedarkantha, Harshil, and Dayara, experienced a significant surge in visitors on New Year’s Eve. Over 5,000 tourists stayed at key spots across the Uttarkashi district, marking the region’s growing popularity as a “New Year Destination.”
According to the official X account of the State Government’s Department of Information and Public Relations:
“In Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, which is gaining fame as a ‘New Year Destination,’ scenic places like Kedarkantha, Harshil, and Dayara are bustling with tourists coming from different parts of the country these days. Even today, more than 3,000 tourists arrived in Harshil, Dayara, and Sankri area. More than 5,000 tourists are reported to have stayed at the major tourist places of the district.”
Enhanced Security Arrangements
The Uttarakhand Police and Administration ensured the safety of tourists with special security measures. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Police, and Disaster Management’s Rapid Action Squad were deployed in tourist-heavy areas like Kedarkantha, Harshil, and Dayara.
“Equipped with satellite phones, walkie-talkies, snow chains, searchlights, and other necessary equipment, these teams have been asked to monitor the movement of tourists and other arrangements in snow-covered areas. Necessary machinery has also been deployed at sensitive places to keep the roads smooth,” the government added.
New Year Celebrations Across India
India welcomed 2025 with joy and enthusiasm, as cities across the country celebrated with parties, cultural events, live music, and themed decorations.
In Delhi, popular spots such as Hauz Khas, Connaught Place, and Lajpat Nagar saw large crowds. Delhi Police ensured safe celebrations with prior security arrangements.
In Amritsar, crowds gathered at the Golden Temple, while hotels across the city hosted special New Year events.
Mumbai witnessed packed beaches, including Juhu Beach and Marine Drive, with revelers enjoying spectacular fireworks displays.
In Bhopal and Lucknow, people danced in the streets to welcome the New Year. Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram lit up the night sky with dazzling fireworks, and Himachal Pradesh’s Manali saw festive dancing and cheering in its snow-clad streets.
From the Golden Temple in Punjab to the scenic ghats of Uttarakhand, India’s New Year celebrations showcased unity and joy across the nation.
