Uttarakhand Govt To Present Budget; Congress Protests Over Smart Pre-Paid Meters

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India]: The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, is set to present the state budget in the assembly today.

On Wednesday, CM Dhami participated in the proceedings of the first Assembly Session of 2025, marking the beginning of the fifth Legislative Assembly’s session in Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs staged a protest during the budget session, opposing the introduction of smart pre-paid electricity meters in the state.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said, “The government does not want to extend the Assembly session’s duration. It wants to avoid discussing major issues. Today, we are opposing the introduction of smart pre-paid electricity meters in the state.”

Recent Approvals by CM Dhami

Earlier, on February 18, CM Dhami sanctioned Rs 2 crore under the modernization of state police forces for the financial year 2024-25, as per an official statement from his office.

He also approved Rs 243.91 lakh for surface coating and signage work on various roads in Ward No. 5 Dhoran Khas, under the Mussoorie Assembly Constituency in Dehradun district.

Additionally, the Chief Minister approved renaming multiple motor roads in Garhwal to honor martyrs and freedom fighters:

  • Chalkudia-Masmoli-Saknoli-Naukholi Motor Road will be named Shaheed Mandeep Singh Negi Motor Road.
  • Sisaldi-Manjhola Motor Road will be renamed Freedom Fighter Motor Road.
  • Badiun Kandool Talla-Kandool Malla Uttinda Motor Road will be named Freedom Fighter Tula Singh Rawat Motor Road.

Further approvals included:

  • Rs 148.48 lakh for reconstructing and improving a road damaged by Gaula River’s excessive water flow in Lalkuan Assembly Constituency.
  • Rs 150.48 lakh for constructing a 15-meter-long RCC bridge over Chinuna Gad, connecting Goluchina-Galli-Vasyura-Govindpur Motor Road in Almora district.
  • Rs 121.83 lakh for additional development works.

PM Modi’s Message on Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee

On November 9, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of Uttarakhand on the state’s formation day, marking the beginning of its Silver Jubilee year.

Reflecting on Uttarakhand’s journey into its 25th year, PM Modi urged citizens to work towards a developed Uttarakhand for a developed India (Viksit Bharat).

He stated that the next 25 years of Uttarakhand’s progress would coincide with India’s Amrit Kaal, emphasizing that the country would witness the fulfillment of its development resolutions.

PM Modi also praised the successful organization of the ‘Pravasi Uttarakhand Sammelan’, expressing hope that Uttarakhand’s diaspora would contribute significantly to the state’s growth.
