Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], March 10 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday held a review meeting with various stakeholders to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the Char Dham Yatra, a key event for the state’s economy and tourism sector.
Speaking to the media, CM Dhami emphasized the vital role that the Char Dham Yatra plays in supporting the state’s economy. He explained that local businesses such as hotels, taxis, homestays, and tourist guides greatly benefit from the influx of pilgrims. He also highlighted the contribution of women-made products, which are sold to the visitors during the yatra.
“For Uttarakhand, Char Dham Yatra is a major medium of business and economy. It is the lifeline for several sectors, including hotels, taxis, tourist guides, and homestays. Products made by women are also distributed during this period. People from across the world visit Char Dham. So, to ensure that the Yatra is good, safe, and smooth for everyone, we had a review meeting today. We discussed experiences from previous Yatras and invited suggestions from stakeholders,” said Dhami.
Additionally, CM Dhami revealed plans to enhance the Winter Yatra this year. He noted that discussions are underway for the development of a master plan for winter seats, which will be implemented soon.
On March 6, CM Dhami had announced the launch of the Winter Yatra to support the livelihoods of those dependent on the Char Dham Yatra. Speaking at a public rally, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in this initiative.
“Char Dham Yatra is an important base of the economy of Uttarakhand. Lakhs of people associated with this Yatra receive employment opportunities, from hoteliers to taxi drivers and from local shopkeepers to trip organizers. During winter, when the portals of the four dhams close, these businesses are impacted. To address this, we began the historic Winter Yatra this year. I had urged the Prime Minister to participate in this Yatra, and he has graciously accepted, marking a significant moment for the state,” Dhami said.
The Winter Yatra is expected to help maintain tourism activity in the region and provide year-round employment for those dependent on the Char Dham pilgrimage.
