Uttarakhand CM Dhami Pays Tribute To Mussoorie Firing Martyrs On 30th Anniversary

Mussoorie (Uttarakhand) [India]: On the 30th anniversary of the Mussoorie firing incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyred agitators at the Shaheed Smarak in Mussoorie on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami stated that the state government is committed to realising the dreams of those who sacrificed their lives for Uttarakhand.

“The state government is working to fulfil the dreams envisioned by the martyred agitators for Uttarakhand. The Khatima incident occurred on September 1, Mussoorie on September 2, and the Rampur Tiraha incident on October 2. These three dates are marked as a dark chapter in our state’s history. We can never forget the supreme sacrifice of our immortal martyrs,” he said.

Dhami also mentioned that the martyred agitators had aspired to create an Uttarakhand where everyone has equal rights, and the state government is advancing with this goal in mind.

He further highlighted that Uttarakhand had recently secured the top position in the Niti Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals ranking. Alongside development, special attention is being paid to maintaining environmental balance.

“To make this decade the decade of Uttarakhand, rapid progress is being made across all sectors. In the next ten years, Uttarakhand will reach the pinnacle of development and progress. This is being achieved through the coordination of ecology and economy,” he said.

“The government has expressed its gratitude to the state agitators by implementing a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for them and their dependents, and pensions are being provided,” he added.

Dhami also acknowledged the significant role of ‘Nari Shakti’ (women’s power) in the state movement and announced that the state government has decided to grant 30 per cent reservation to women in government services.

“A strict anti-copying law has been enforced in the state, leading to the imprisonment of more than 100 individuals involved in exam malpractices. Additionally, stringent laws have been introduced to prevent forced conversions and anti-riot measures have been implemented. Strict action has also been taken against ‘land jihad’ to prevent demographic changes in the state,” he said.

Dhami further noted that over 16,000 appointments have been made in government departments in the past three years, and recently, the final result of the 2021 State PCS Examination and the preliminary result of the 2024 examination were released in a single day.

“Most of the candidates selected in these examinations are from Uttarakhand,” he added.
Dhami also promised to establish a museum in memory of the martyrs at the Shaheed Smarak in Mussoorie.

On this occasion, state agitators expressed their gratitude to Dhami for implementing the 10 per cent horizontal reservation system.

After the program, Dhami paid tribute to Indramani Badoni by garlanding his statue.
