Uttarakhand CM Dhami Orders Enhanced Measures To Tackle Forest Fires

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], January 30: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) to take immediate action for the effective management and control of forest fire incidents in the state’s most vulnerable districts, according to an official statement. These orders come ahead of the upcoming forest fire season in 2025.

To bolster preparedness, ten senior officers from the Forest Department have been designated as nodal officers for various districts. Their role will be to ensure better coordination and collaboration with local resources and other departments to address the specific needs of each district.

As part of the proactive measures, the Uttarakhand Forest Department has already issued a directive to appoint these nodal officers in advance of the fire season. This will enable timely review of the forest fire management strategies and district-level control measures ahead of the season.

During the fire season, these officers will oversee the coordination of fire management efforts, ensuring the effective monitoring, control, and response to incidents in the forest divisions.

In a bid to enhance community involvement in fire management, the Uttarakhand Forest Department is also conducting research and field studies on existing personnel, SEA (Social Environmental Assessment), and Forest Fire Management Committees. The goal is to replicate the successful ‘Sheetalakhet’ model across the state’s forest divisions under the Almora Forest Division.

So far, 20 teams from 15 forest divisions have participated in exposure visits, with 970 personnel, including Forest Panchayat Sarpanchs, actively taking part in the training programs.
