Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), February 19: Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Satish Mahana on Wednesday emphasized the importance of the smooth functioning of the assembly session for public welfare, urging the opposition to fulfill its role responsibly.
“The smooth conduct of the session is important for the welfare of the people. The opposition should fulfill its responsibility and advise the government. They even have the right to criticize if needed. As the Speaker, I assure you that everyone will get a fair chance to raise their issues,” Mahana said.
On Tuesday, Samajwadi Party and Congress MLAs raised the “Go Back Governor” slogan as Governor Anandiben Patel addressed the assembly. Samajwadi Party leaders also protested in front of the legislative assembly against the deaths during the Mahakumbh stampede.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the opposition to cooperate to ensure the session runs peacefully until March 5. He said, “It is not only the responsibility of the government but also the responsibility of the opposition to run the session smoothly. The standards set by the double-engine BJP government over the past 8 years for the development of UP are unprecedented. This is reflected in the Governor’s speech as well as the discussions inside the House. Naturally, the frustrated opposition tries to avoid discussing these issues and obstructs House proceedings. If the opposition helps in taking forward meaningful discussions, this can be a very productive session.”
Governor Anandiben Patel, during her speech on Tuesday, expressed grief over the tragic stampede during the Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” she said, offering condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. She also praised the Mahakumbh mela, calling it a manifestation of the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.’
