“Tracking Everything”: US Warns Russia Over Intelligence Sharing With Iran

WASHINGTON / TEHRAN — On Friday, March 6, 2026, the conflict in West Asia took a significant geopolitical turn as reports emerged that Russia has begun sharing critical military intelligence with Tehran. According to U.S. officials familiar with the assessments, Moscow is providing data that could assist Iran in targeting American warships, aircraft, and other high-value assets in the region.

The development represents the first major indication of direct Russian involvement since the U.S. and Israel launched their campaign against Iran exactly one week ago on February 28.

1. “A Comprehensive Effort”

Reports from media suggest that Russian intelligence sharing has become “pretty comprehensive” as Iran’s own surveillance capabilities have been degraded by constant bombardment.

  • Targeting Aid: Moscow is reportedly providing coordinates and high-quality satellite imagery of U.S. troop concentrations and naval movements.
  • Hegseth’s Response: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in a “60 Minutes” interview airing this Sunday, stated the U.S. is “tracking everything” and factoring these leaks into its battle plans. “The American people can rest assured their commander-in-chief is well aware of who’s talking to who,” Hegseth said.

2. White House: “It Doesn’t Matter”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the reports on Friday, adopting a tone of military dominance.

  • Decimation of Assets: Leavitt told reporters that the intelligence sharing isn’t changing the war’s trajectory because the U.S. is “completely decimating” the Iranian regime.
  • Naval Collapse: She noted that the U.S. has already “taken out nearly 30 [Iranian] ships,” and that the Iranian Navy is now considered “combat ineffective.”

3. The Sinking of IRIS Dena

The strategic cost of the conflict was made clear on Wednesday, March 4, when a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Charlotte, torpedoed the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena off the coast of Sri Lanka.

  • Casualties: At least 87 sailors were killed in the strike, which occurred as the ship was returning from naval exercises hosted by India.
  • Safe Haven: While the Dena was sunk, its sister ship IRIS Lavan was permitted to dock in Kochi, India, on the same day due to technical faults. 183 crew members are currently being housed at Indian naval facilities.+1

4. Kremlin’s Strategic Ambiguity

In Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refused to confirm or deny the intelligence-sharing reports but maintained that Iran has not requested direct military assistance.

  • Dialogue Continues: Peskov emphasized that Russia remains in constant dialogue with Tehran, framing the U.S.-Israeli strikes as an “unprovoked act of armed aggression.”
