“Monitoring Situation Closely,” US Secy Of State Marco Rubio On India Missile Strike In Pakistan

Washington [US]: Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s precision strikes on terror camps under Operation Sindoor, the United States has called for calm and de-escalation.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said:
“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo President Trump’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”

Rubio’s remarks came hours after former President Donald Trump addressed the situation during a media interaction, expressing concern over renewed hostilities:
“We just heard about it as we were walking through the doors of the Oval. Just heard about it. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They’ve been fighting for a long time. They’ve been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries, actually, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly.”

The US State Department also issued a brief statement, confirming its awareness of the developments but refraining from an in-depth response. A spokesperson told media:
“We are aware of the reports, however we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments.”

These responses follow India’s strategic airstrikes targeting nine terror hubs—four inside Pakistan (Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot) and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)—executed by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force in a coordinated mission.

The Indian Ministry of Defence clarified that the strikes were in direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national. In its official statement, the ministry said:
“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

Sources confirmed to media that Prime Minister Narendra Modi closely monitored the operation throughout the night. The strikes were aimed at high-ranking Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives involved in planning attacks against India. All targets were successfully neutralized using special precision munitions, according to the reports.
