US Reaffirms Full Support To PM Modi Following Pahalgam Terror Attack; Urges Peaceful Resolution Between India, Pakistan

Washington, DC [US]: The United States has reiterated its full support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India in the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead. The US also urged both India and Pakistan to pursue a responsible and peaceful resolution to growing tensions.

At a press briefing on Friday, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the Trump administration remains in close contact with both governments and continues to monitor the situation closely.

“We are monitoring closely. Yesterday, the Secretary spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As President Donald Trump articulated to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands strong with India against terrorism, and Prime Minister Modi has our full support,”
Bruce said.

The conversations between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Indian and Pakistani leaders emphasized regional stability and de-escalation amid increased ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) following the April 22 attack.

“The Secretary encouraged both countries to work toward a responsible solution that maintains long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia. We continue to be in touch with the governments of both countries at multiple levels,”
Bruce added.

Tensions Rise Post-Pahalgam Attack

The attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people—mostly tourists—and injured dozens more, was carried out by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, according to Indian officials.

In response, India has taken several retaliatory steps:

  • Indus Water Treaty has been held in abeyance.
  • The Integrated Check Post at Attari has been shut down.
  • India has curtailed diplomatic strength at both High Commissions.
  • Armed forces have been granted complete operational freedom to respond to Pakistani provocations.

Since then, there have been multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistan, particularly on April 26–28, along sectors including Tutmari Gali, Rampur, Kupwara, and Poonch. The Indian Army responded strongly to these provocations, according to military sources.

US Calls for Restraint

When asked about the effectiveness of US diplomatic outreach, Bruce reiterated Washington’s message of “responsible resolution”, though declined to provide further details.

“We are asking for a responsible resolution from both parties. And beyond that, there’s nothing I can give you, any other details,”
Bruce said.

Meanwhile, security operations in the Kashmir Valley have been intensified as part of India’s crackdown on terrorism in the region.

Conclusion

With tensions simmering along the LoC and diplomatic ties strained, the US has stepped up its role as a mediator, calling for calm while voicing unequivocal support for India in its fight against terrorism.
