New York — American hip-hop icon Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred to a low-security federal prison in New Jersey to serve his four-year and two-month sentence for prostitution-related offences, according to the latest records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
Combs, 55, is now being held at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix, located about 130 kilometres (80 miles) south of New York City. The facility is known for its rehabilitation and drug treatment programs.
His legal team had requested that he be moved to the New Jersey facility, where he is expected to remain until May 8, 2028, factoring in time already served.
Conviction and Sentencing
Combs was arrested in September 2024 and later convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
However, he was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, which carried significantly heavier penalties.
Before the sentencing, Combs delivered an emotional apology in court, saying he was “truly sorry” for his actions.
“My behaviour was disgusting, shameful and sick,” Combs told the court, addressing both his victims and his family through tears.
The sentence handed down by the federal judge also accounted for the months Combs spent in pre-trial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a facility noted for its harsh conditions.
Appeal in Progress
Despite expressing remorse, the music mogul has filed appeals challenging both his conviction and sentence.
Once one of the most influential figures in hip-hop, Combs’ downfall has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, which had long regarded him as a pioneer and powerhouse entrepreneur.
