The U.S. has put up a plan to change the H-1B visa program after President Donald Trump announced a $100,000 price for each new application. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) wants to get rid of the current lottery system and replace it with a weighted selection method that favors foreign workers who are more skilled and make more money. This would still let employers hire workers at all salary levels.
Employers typically don’t know if they can get H-1B visas for skilled foreign workers in industries like technology, engineering, and other specialized fields because of the existing lottery-based system. The proposed changes are meant to give priority to candidates who have more experience and pay, which will make it harder for people to abuse the visa process.
Taylor Rogers, a spokesperson for the White House, stated, “President Trump promised to put American workers first, and this common-sense action does just that by stopping companies from spamming the system and driving down wages.” It also allows American businesses who really want to attract qualified people to our magnificent country peace of mind after being hurt by the system.
Trump made it clear last week when he signed the proclamation that the new rules are meant to encourage businesses to hire American workers.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal are in the US right now. They met with Trump administration officials in New York on Monday.
