The Historic Pursuit of Novak Djokovic
The famous Novak Djokovic will be going after his 25th Grand Slam victory in the men’s singles category. The 24-time major champion will play American qualifier Zachary Svajda in a contest that is sure to be very exciting.
The Guardian said that Djokovic started his US Open campaign with a tough first-round win over Learner Tien. He had to fight through tiredness and a bad foot during the match. Now, against the 22-year-old Svajda, Djokovic wants to stay on pace for another historic milestone.
At 11:30 a.m. ET, they will play their second-round encounter. ESPN and ESPN+ will show all the action live in the US.
Aryna Sabalenka’s Title Defense
Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion and top seed, is ready to keep up her successful championship defense on the women’s side. She will play against Polina Kudermetova of Russia in the second round, which is sure to be an interesting match. It is also set for Wednesday night.
Sabalenka began her US Open campaign on a high note, beating Rebeka Masarova in straight sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-1. The powerful Belarusian wants to add a third Grand Slam trophy to her already outstanding list of achievements.
Polina Kudermetova got to the second round because her first-round opponent dropped out. Kudermetova is only 21 years old, so she brings a lot of energy to the court. She has nothing to lose against the world No. 1, which makes for an exciting and intriguing match.
Wednesday’s US Open lineup will be full of high-stakes drama and world-class tennis, with Djokovic trying to make history and Sabalenka defending her title.
