Washington DC [US]: United States National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan is scheduled to visit India on January 5 and 6. During his trip, Sullivan will engage with several prominent Indian dignitaries, including NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the White House confirmed on Saturday.
In his meeting with Ajit Doval, Sullivan will discuss a wide array of topics, ranging from space and defense to strategic technology cooperation and shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific region. “National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to New Delhi, India on January 5-6 for a capstone meeting with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval that will span a range of issues across the breadth of the US-India partnership—from space, defense, and strategic technology cooperation to shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific and beyond,” stated US National Security Council Spokesperson Sean Savett.
Sullivan’s itinerary includes a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other key Indian leaders. He will also visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he plans to meet young Indian entrepreneurs. His visit aims to highlight the US-India partnership on innovation under the Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) initiative.
“He will also visit the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he will meet with young Indian entrepreneurs and give a speech outlining the significant steps the United States and India have taken together to strengthen our innovation alliance under the U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET),” noted the White House statement.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby described Sullivan’s visit as “critical” and expressed excitement about the upcoming discussions. This trip marks Sullivan’s final visit to the Indo-Pacific region as NSA, further underlining its significance.
The Ministry of External Affairs in India also confirmed the visit during its weekly press briefing, highlighting the importance of discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
Previously, during his visit to the US, EAM Jaishankar held extensive discussions with Jake Sullivan on the progress of the India-US strategic partnership and exchanged views on regional and global developments. In October last year, Sullivan and Doval held a phone conversation to discuss critical regional security issues, emphasizing the importance of stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
