JD Vance has indicated that the United States is not seeking a prolonged military engagement in Iran, stressing that Washington aims to complete its objectives and withdraw in the near term.
Speaking in an interview with podcast host Benny Johnson, Vance said the US is focused on immediate goals rather than long-term involvement. “We’re not thinking a year or two down the road. We are taking care of business and will be out of there soon,” he said.
US Strategy Focused on Short-Term Objectives
Vance explained that the current campaign would continue for “a little while longer” to ensure that the US does not have to return for similar operations in the future. The approach, he suggested, is aimed at avoiding a drawn-out military commitment while securing strategic outcomes.
He also noted that global energy markets could stabilise once tensions ease, adding that gasoline prices are expected to decline if the situation improves.
Trump Extends Pause on Strikes
The remarks come after Donald Trump extended a temporary pause on potential strikes against Iran’s energy infrastructure by 10 days, pushing the deadline to April 6.
Trump said the decision followed progress in negotiations and was made at the request of Iranian authorities, indicating that diplomatic channels remain active despite ongoing tensions.
Iran Issues Warning to Neighbours
Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian issued a stern warning to neighbouring countries, urging them not to allow their territories to be used for military actions against Iran.
He stated that while Iran does not initiate pre-emptive attacks, it would respond strongly if its infrastructure or economic centres were targeted.
Conflict Enters Second Month
The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has now entered its second month, following large-scale airstrikes launched on February 28. The situation continues to remain volatile, with both military and diplomatic developments unfolding simultaneously.
