A 17-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh, Aditya Kumar, has successfully created an AI teacher robot named Sophie. The Class 12 student from Shiv Charan Inter College showcased his invention in a video, where the robot demonstrated its ability to answer questions across various subjects.
Introducing Sophie: The AI Teacher
In an interview shared by media, the student explained the technology behind his creation. When asked to introduce herself, the robot, which speaks only Hindi currently, responded:
“I am an AI teacher robot. My name is Sophie, and I was invented by Aditya. I teach at Shivcharan Inter-college, Bulandshahr… Yes, I can properly teach students.”
The Technology Behind the Robot
Aditya Kumar explained that he utilized advanced technology typically found in major tech firms to power his robot.
- LLM Chipset: Kumar stated, “I have used an LLM chipset to build this robot, which is also used by big companies that make robots. It can clear students’ doubts…”
- Current and Future Capabilities: Currently, Sophie is designed to teach verbally. Kumar added: “For now, she can only speak. But we are designing it so it can write as well soon.”
- Demonstration: Kumar tested Sophie’s knowledge with a range of questions, including:
- The world’s tallest building.
- India’s first president and prime minister.
- The definition of electricity.
- Basic arithmetic, such as calculating the sum of “100 + 92.”
The student highlighted that Sophie could serve as a valuable substitute teacher if a regular teacher is absent for a day.
A Call for Research Support
Drawing from his own experience in creating Sophie, Aditya Kumar emphasized the need for better infrastructure to support student research and innovation across the state.
He stated that students should have access to a proper lab in every district for conducting research, adding: “There should be a lab in every district so students can come there and do research.”
