In a shocking act of domestic violence, a man was arrested in Shahjahanpur district on Sunday for allegedly throwing acid on his wife and two daughters over suspicion of an extramarital affair, police confirmed.
According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi, the accused, Ram Gopal, attacked his family members at their residence in the Nigohi police station area.
“Ram Gopal threw acid on his wife and two daughters, suspecting his wife of an extramarital relationship,” SP Dwivedi told media.
Victims Under Treatment, Out of Danger
- The wife and one daughter suffered minor injuries, while the second daughter was seriously injured.
- All three victims are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
- Doctors have confirmed that they are out of danger.
Accused and Acid Seller Both Arrested
Ram Gopal was immediately arrested after the attack, and police also took into custody the person who illegally sold him the acid, raising questions over continued black-market sales despite strict regulations.
Recurring Violent Crimes in UP
This incident follows another chilling case in Auraiya, where Dilip Yadav was allegedly murdered by contract killers hired by his wife Pragati and her lover Anurag.
According to SP Abhijeet R Shankar, police intercepted two suspects during a late-night vehicle check on March 27. The suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on police. Both were injured in retaliatory firing and are now in custody.
These back-to-back incidents have sparked fresh concerns over domestic violence, the availability of acid, and rising contract killings in Uttar Pradesh.
