Universal Unveils Exclusive First Look At ‘Wicked: For Good’ At CinemaCon

Washington [US], April 3: Universal Pictures concluded its CinemaCon presentation with an exclusive first look at ‘Wicked: For Good’, the much-anticipated second installment of Jon M. Chu’s Oscar-winning adaptation of the beloved musical.

Set for a November 21 domestic release, the film continues the story of Galinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) as they navigate their fates in the magical land of Oz.

Epic Trailer Premiere

During the presentation, Chu, along with producer Marc Platt, introduced the trailer alongside Grande and Erivo. While the stars didn’t perform live, the electrifying trailer was met with enthusiasm from theater owners.

As per Deadline, the footage teases:

  • Galinda’s ominous warning to Elphaba: “They’re coming for you.”
  • Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and his forces searching for Elphaba.
  • A powerful scene where Elphaba writes “OUR WIZARD LIES” in the sky, a rebellious act against the deceptive ruler of Oz.

Returning and New Cast

The film boasts a star-studded returning cast, including:

  • Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero
  • Ethan Slater as Boq
  • Marissa Bode as Nessarose
  • Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible
  • Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz

Production & Legacy

Director Jon M. Chu shot both films simultaneously, with ‘Wicked: Part One’ grossing over USD 747 million globally and earning 10 Oscar nominations, winning two.

The screenplay was co-written by Winnie Holzman (who adapted the original Broadway musical) and Dana Fox, with Stephen Schwartz, the Broadway composer, serving as an executive producer alongside Jared LeBoff and David Nicksay.

With the excitement surrounding ‘Wicked: For Good’, fans eagerly anticipate the epic conclusion to this magical saga.
