Union Home Minister Amit Shah Directs Crackdown on Illegal Intruders In Delhi

New Delhi (India), February 28: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed authorities to take stringent action against the entire network that assists Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders in illegally entering India, obtaining documents, and settling in the country. This directive came following a high-level meeting with newly elected Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora, and other senior officials on law and order and coordination.

The meeting, held on Thursday, marked the first such gathering in a decade that included the Delhi Chief Minister. During the discussions, Shah emphasized that the issue of illegal intruders is directly related to national security and must be addressed with urgency. He instructed authorities to strictly identify, detain, and deport those involved in this illegal activity.

“Take strict action against the entire network that helps Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders enter the country, get their documents made, and facilitate their stay here. The issue of illegal intruders is also related to national security, and it should be dealt with strictly,” Shah said in the meeting, as quoted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The meeting comes after Rekha Gupta, who represents Shalimar Bagh as the BJP’s debutante MLA, took oath as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister on February 20. The Home Minister assured that the newly formed double-engine government in Delhi would work efficiently to build a developed and secure Delhi, in line with the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Further instructions from Shah included a directive for the Delhi Police Commissioner to take immediate action against police stations and subdivisions performing poorly in maintaining law and order. He also called for a relentless approach to dismantle interstate gangs operating in Delhi and tackling narcotics cases comprehensively, urging a top-down and bottom-up approach in the fight against drugs.

Shah also recommended that the Delhi government appoint special prosecutors to expedite the trials related to the 2020 Delhi riots, ensuring quick disposal of these cases. Additionally, he emphasized the recruitment of more police personnel and urged DCP-level officers to personally engage with the public through hearing camps to address their issues.

Addressing other concerns, Shah suggested forming new security committees in Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters for the protection of women and children and directed the police to tackle daily traffic jams by identifying trouble spots and finding swift solutions. He also requested that the Delhi government prepare a “Monsoon Action Plan” to address water-logging issues.

The nearly two-hour meeting was attended by key officials, including Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau, and senior representatives from the Delhi government and police. A detailed presentation on Delhi’s law and order situation was given, outlining strategies to enhance coordination between the newly formed Delhi government and the Delhi Police to address emerging security challenges.
