Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 3: The upcoming documentary Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story, chronicling the life of former Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand, has wrapped production and is expected to release soon.
Directed by Raghav Khanna, the film traces Chand’s extraordinary yet tumultuous cricket journey—from leading India to Under-19 World Cup glory to his unexpected decision to leave Indian cricket at 28 and pursue a career in the United States.
The documentary explores Chand’s rise as a teenage cricket sensation and his struggles to secure a place in the Indian senior team, despite immense promise. Disillusioned with his stalled career, Chand eventually took the bold step to seek fresh opportunities overseas.
Reflecting on his career, Chand said in a press note, “Looking back, life has been a rollercoaster—from winning the Under-19 World Cup to retiring from Indian cricket at just 28. From being a poster boy to being trolled and forgotten, I’ve lived through the extremes of public opinion.”
He added that while he was initially hesitant to participate in the documentary, the filming process proved cathartic. “It made me look at my own story from a new perspective. I feel it’s a story that will resonate with many people who don’t get what they want but are still determined to keep pursuing their path.”
Director Raghav Khanna, known for acclaimed projects like The Elephant Whisperers and The Hunt for Veerappan, said he was compelled by Chand’s emotional highs and lows. “Unmukt’s journey after the Under-19 World Cup is a tale of perseverance when hope is hard to come by. The contrast between his potential and the outcome drew me to this story,” he shared in the release.
