New Delhi: A diplomat associated with the United Nations has resigned, claiming the global body is preparing for a potential nuclear scenario involving Iran.
Mohamad Safa announced his resignation in a post on X, accompanied by a letter outlining his concerns. Safa served as the main representative of Patriotic Vision Association (PVA), an organisation with consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council.
I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.

This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low… pic.twitter.com/BnzB4F3001
In his statement, Safa said his decision came after prolonged reflection, alleging that certain senior figures within the UN were influenced by powerful lobbying interests.
After much reflection, and after it became clear to me that some UN seniors are serving a powerful lobby and not the UN, I have decided to suspend all my duties as PVA Main Representative at the UN and from all UN committees/groups of which I am a member.

“I don’t think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran,” he wrote.
Highlighting the human cost of such a conflict, Safa referred to Tehran as a densely populated city of nearly 10 million people. He urged people to consider the consequences of a nuclear strike, comparing it to attacks on major global cities like Washington, Berlin, Paris, or London.
Safa claimed he stepped down to avoid being complicit in what he described as a potential “crime against humanity.” He also warned of the risk of a “nuclear winter” and called for global awareness and public action.
The diplomat said he had considered resigning as early as 2023 and cited growing frustration over the UN’s handling of global conflicts. He also alleged that officials within the organisation avoided holding certain countries accountable under international law.
Additionally, Safa claimed he faced criticism, censorship, and even threats after expressing dissenting views following the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.
The United Nations has not issued an official response to these allegations so far.
