The United Nations (UN) has strongly condemned recent attacks on civilians in Sudan, which resulted in over 60 deaths and more than 150 injuries. The strikes occurred as fighting escalates between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
UN’s Statement on Civilian Attacks
- Clementine Nkweta-Salami, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, denounced the strike on Sabreen Market and attacks on residential neighborhoods in Omdurman (Khartoum State).
- She stated:“These attacks constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.”
- The UN also condemned attacks between January 30 and February 1 in Al Obeid, Um Rawaba (North Kordofan), North Darfur, and South Darfur.
