UK Deploys Nuclear Submarine in Arabian Sea Amid Escalating US-Iran Conflict

London: UK has reportedly deployed a nuclear-powered submarine, HMS Anson, to the Arabian Sea as tensions continue to rise in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

According to reports, HMS Anson—armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Spearfish torpedoes—traveled nearly 5,500 miles from Perth, Australia, to reach the region earlier this month. The submarine is part of the UK’s advanced Astute-class fleet, known for its stealth, firepower, and long-range strike capabilities.

The deployment places the vessel within operational range of Iran, allowing it to launch missiles at strategic targets if the conflict escalates further. However, there has been no official confirmation from the UK Ministry of Defence regarding the mission.

This move comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, including Iran’s reported blockade of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical passage for global oil supply. The disruption has raised alarm among multiple nations, with at least 22 countries, including the UK, condemning attacks on commercial shipping in the region.

HMS Anson had earlier been stationed in Australia as part of the AUKUS partnership before being redirected to the Middle East theatre.

Reports suggest that any potential strike would require authorization from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with commands relayed through military headquarters in London.

The deployment highlights growing international military involvement in the conflict, as global powers respond to rising instability and threats to critical energy routes.
