Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The Mahila Congress on Saturday protested against the recent rape incidents in Ujjain and across Madhya Pradesh, including the shocking incident in which a woman was allegedly raped on a footpath in broad daylight while bystanders filmed the crime and posted the video online.
They protestors submitted a memorandum to the administration, demanding strict punishment for the accused.
While the accused has been taken into police custody, another person involved in filming the alleged rape incident two days ago has also been arrested, police said
A woman in the Thana Kotwali area of Ujjain had filed a police complaint about raped two days ago. According to prior reports, a female officer was called to take her statement, and senior officers were immediately informed. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered, naming Lokesh as the accused.
A police team was quickly formed to locate Lokesh. Within two hours of the FIR being filed, Lokesh was arrested and brought to the police station for questioning, where he confessed to the crime. The woman underwent a medical examination, and Lokesh was presented before the Court. As per the court’s order, Lokesh was sent to Bherugarh Jail. The woman’s statement was also recorded before the court, where she confirmed her account of the incident.
In addition, another person who filmed the incident has also been arrested. Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma said, “Two days ago, a woman was made to drink alcohol by an acquaintance at Koyla Phat and lured into marriage.” He added, “Mohammad Salim, a resident of Nagda, who made the video viral, has been arrested. His mobile and the video have been recovered. We are investigating further.”
Following the incident, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, questioning their silence over the recent rape incident in Ujjain. Patwari pointed out that while BJP leaders are protesting nationwide against the rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, they have remained silent on the Ujjain incident.
On September 4, a woman was allegedly raped in broad daylight on a public footpath in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Following the complaint from the victim, the accused was arrested the same day and sent to jail the next day.
Speaking to media, Jitu Patwari said, “BJP is protesting across the country against the rape and murder in Kolkata, West Bengal. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, 18 women are sexually assaulted daily. A woman was raped in broad daylight on a footpath in CM Mohan Yadav’s constituency. Why are MP CM Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP, and PM Narendra Modi silent?”
He further added, “There is ‘Jungle Raj’ in Madhya Pradesh when it comes to law and order. No one is safe here.”
Reacting to Patwari’s remarks, Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma said , “The Congress party has no real issues to corner the government, so they try to twist incidents like this.
The MP government took immediate action in the Ujjain case, arrested the accused, and sent him to jail. Our government ensures strict action against such criminals.”
Sharma also added that the MP government was the first in the country to introduce the death penalty for such crimes.
