Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Launches Guidelines for Faculty Appointments

In related developments, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released new guidelines aimed at transforming the faculty recruitment process for higher education institutions. Among the key changes, eligibility criteria for vice-chancellors have been broadened to include professionals from a variety of fields such as academia, research institutions, public policy, and industry.

The guidelines emphasize that the Ph.D. subject will now be prioritized over undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines for faculty selections. According to Pradhan, these reforms aim to infuse innovation, inclusivity, flexibility, and dynamism into the higher education system.

Pradhan also expressed confidence that the Draft Regulations 2025 would soon be finalized after receiving feedback from the public, with the goal of strengthening academic standards and research excellence, contributing to India’s ambition of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Special Recruitment Pathways for Specific Fields

The new guidelines also introduce specialized recruitment pathways for areas like Yoga, Music, Performing Arts, and Sports. This move ensures that professionals with extraordinary skills or achievements in these fields will have the opportunity to join academia and contribute to the educational ecosystem.

These regulations will be applicable to Central, State, Private, and Deemed Universities, setting the stage for a more inclusive and innovative higher education landscape in India.
