Udhampur Sees Paddy Hope With Rain, But Water Crisis Persists; LG Sinha Calls Terror Attacks ‘Acts Of War’

Udhampur (J&K), June 23: Recent rainfall in Chanthal village of Udhampur has brought hope to farmers for a healthy paddy crop season, boosting agricultural morale in the region. However, water scarcity remains severe in Sangyal village, where locals are forced to fetch water on horseback due to delays in a government water supply project.

Agricultural Boost Amid Rainfall

Farmer Ganesh Sharma said the rain was “timely” for paddy and vegetable crops, combining with canal irrigation to improve yield potential.

Water Crisis in Sangyal

Despite the rainfall, other regions like Sangyal continue to suffer.

  • Locals are transporting water by horses due to failed infrastructure.
  • Darsoo Gudhar Water Supply Scheme is incomplete.
  • Work is stalled due to fund shortages and local land disputes.
  • Executive Engineer of Udhampur Division assured ANI efforts are underway to resolve disputes and resume construction.

This announcement was made during the graduation of the 17th DySP and 26th PSI batches, the first to be trained under India’s new criminal laws.

  • Total graduates: 50 Deputy SPs and 1,112 Sub-Inspectors
  • Ceremony attended by DGP Nalin Prabhat and ADGP Garib Dass

“This is a new era of law enforcement and counter-terrorism,” Sinha emphasized, urging officers to uphold national integrity.
