The San José Police Media Relations confirmed the shooting on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Units are currently investigating a shooting at Valley Fair Mall in West San Jose. Two victims were located and have been transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Please avoid the area while officers investigate and work to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Witnesses Detail Scene of Terror and Lockdown
The sound of gunfire sent a wave of fear through the massive shopping center, leading to an immediate mall-wide lockdown as police units quickly arrived on the scene.

People were seen running and hiding inside stores, with one witness detailing the lockdown from inside a storage room with their children: “Active shooter at westfield valley fair. We are in lockdown with my kids at westfield valley fair, hiding in a storage room. I can hear people screaming outside. Pray.”
