TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK Rejoins NDA Ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK) chief TTV Dhinakaran has officially rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The move comes after Dhinakaran met Union Minister and BJP Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal on Wednesday.

During a press conference in Chennai, Dhinakaran emphasized the importance of putting past differences aside for the “broader interests” of the party and the state. He said, “Making compromises for the common good does not weaken us… we will come together as one and stand firmly to ensure Amma’s rule returns to Tamil Nadu.”

Piyush Goyal welcomed the re-entry of AMMK into the NDA, stating that the alliance will “work together and defeat the anti-Bharat DMK alliance” while promoting leadership, governance, and social justice in the state.

Election Context:

  • NDA in Tamil Nadu: Led by AIADMK and BJP, now strengthened by AMMK’s return.
  • Main Opposition: Ruling DMK-Congress alliance.
  • Emerging Third Front: Actor-turned-politician Vijay launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), adding a new dynamic to the polls.
  • Campaign Activity: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a public rally in Maduranthakam, Chengalpattu district, on January 23.

The assembly elections are shaping up to be a three-cornered contest, with the NDA aiming to capitalize on consolidation while the DMK-Congress tries to defend its rule.
