“ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT”: Donald Trump Vows To Fight Court Ruling In Supreme Court

\WASHINGTON D.C.: President Donald Trump on Saturday forcefully reacted to a federal appeals court ruling that found many of his tariffs were illegal, stating that all tariffs would remain in effect and vowing to take the fight to the Supreme Court. The court’s decision, which delivered a major legal blow to his trade policy, concluded that Trump had overstepped his authority under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the appeals court “Highly Partisan” and said the ruling would be a “total disaster for the Country” if it were allowed to stand. “If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong,” he wrote.

The court, however, had already provided a temporary reprieve for the administration, allowing the tariffs to remain in place until October 14 to give Trump’s legal team time to appeal the decision. The ruling does not affect tariffs on steel and aluminum, which were imposed under a different law, but it invalidates the “reciprocal” tariffs and duties on China, Canada, and Mexico that were justified under the IEEPA.

In his statement, Trump reiterated his long-held view that tariffs are essential for American workers and businesses. He argued that they are the best tool to address what he calls “enormous Trade Deficits and unfair Tariffs and Non Tariff Trade Barriers” imposed by other countries. “With the help of the United States Supreme Court, we will use them to the benefit of our Nation, and Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again!” he wrote.

The court ruling came just hours after top Trump administration officials, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, had filed urgent statements arguing that striking down the tariffs would threaten U.S. foreign policy and national security. Lutnick warned that such a decision could “derail critical ongoing negotiations” with foreign partners and lead to retaliation.

The tariffs, which have been a cornerstone of Trump’s economic policy, have generated significant revenue for the U.S. Treasury, with totals reaching $159 billion, more than double the amount from the previous year. The Justice Department has also warned that revoking the tariffs could lead to “financial ruin” for the U.S. government.
